"The Kapiti Invasion" Exhibition
Along with 38 Kapiti artists, we have combined forces to produce an outstanding exhibition. It’s well worth a visit. Think reinvented artworks like recycled Golden Syrup tins transformed into a saint’s robes, carved flowing Oamaru stone birds, paua embedded lighthouses made from Kapiti driftwood, a richly coloured ceramic rendition of an old Southward’s car, chain maille and steampunk jewellery, delicate and haunting Italian inspired handmade masks, abstract and realistic paintings, wood and glass creations plus more delightful works. Emerging and renowned artists include Alan Wehipeihana, Debbie Pointon, Bodhi Vincent, Wendy Masters, May Iremonger, Sonia Savage, Jan Waterfield, Vinny Thompson, John and Edna Stuart, Phil Quinn, George Thompson, Olinka Heath, Kimbra, Donna Clarke Taylor, Joan Coleman and me. The plan is that this may become a biannual event, with Hutt artists invading our shores next year. The Odlin Gallery is open from 10am to 4pm daily at 9 Myrtle Street, Lower Hutt (a stone’s throw from the Dowse). “The Kapiti Invasion” exhibition runs until 12 May with free admission. |

Bouncing off the Walls!
Four of us have teamed up
to present our work at the Artelier Gallery at Lindale just a few kms north
of Paraparaumu. Two of us are from
Kapiti, one from Wellington and the fourth comes originally from France but has
fallen in love with New Zealand’s natural beauty. So you’ll be treated to
European inspired works by Shirley Sutton and Dana Jackson and Kiwi inspired
works including butterflies by Héloïse. Molly Barclay brings us roses, mountain
landscapes and birds.
You should be able to recognize all of the subject matter even if some of it is a bit quirky. I have gone mad on cats and aslo had some fun turning some images of cows and castles and poizza into clocks. Our Kapiti Mayor purchased one at the opening. If you are keen on a bit more abstraction there is a huge array of styles, colours and concepts on display in the rest of the gallery created by the regular Artel artists. Now showing at the Artelier Gallery, Lindale Tourist Centre just a few kms north of Paraparaumu. The exhibition has been extended until 29 February. Come along and let us know what you think. |
