Cape Palliser, Wairarapa Coast

Acrylic

The drive along the coast to the lighthouse at Cape Palliser is one of my favourites. After quitting the Wairarapa plains, you hit a craggy coastline and pass through the little village of Ngawi where bulldozers pull the fishing boats up on shore. The tiny golf course with its honesty box, is squeezed between the road and the ocean and has fenced off greens stopping the sheep destroying them. Then it’s on past the whiffy seal colony to the lighthouse which has a stairway to heaven to climb to enjoy the view.
