Landacres' Cabin, Eagles Cliff, Washington, USA

Watercolour

Friends Kevin and Melissa Landacre led an extraordinary lifestyle in the woods near Mount Saint Helens in Washington State, USA. Relying on oil generated power, with cell phone contact only possible from on top of a particular hill, they ran an accommodation business, general store with everything from candles to condoms to cougars in it, and also had a property maintenance business. Good thing they couldn't get TV because they wouldn't have had time to watch it!

When I painted this picture the smell of pine pollen was in the air and there were hummingbirds about. What a buzz – such tiny little birds which can hover effortlessly in one place.
